What Is the Difference Between the Add Member and Add Client Options Available on the Security Server?

The Security Server supports three types of entities:

  1. Members

  2. Subsystems as clients

  3. Services.

The Security Server is owned by a Member entity and the Security Server can only have one owner at a time. Therefore, it’s possible to have only two registered Member entities simultaneously to enable changing the Security Server owner.

Instead, Subsystem entities are used as clients to consume and provide services. The Security Server can have an unlimited number of registered clients and the clients can be owned by different Members. In other words, hosting multiple organisations means that a single Security Server has multiple registered Subsystems that are owned by different organisations. However, different organisations are not registered as Member entities, but as clients using Subsystem entities.

In addition, the Security Server supports Service entities. Services are added under Subsystem entities, but unlike Members and Subsystems, Services don't need to be registered on the Central Server. Instead, Services are local entities that are managed on the Security Server by the Security Server Administrator.
