What kind of ongoing resource is needed to maintain X-Road?
Ongoing resources needed to maintain X-Road consist of infrastructure and maintenance costs of the central components (typically 2-10 servers), costs of certificates, supporting new member organisations in the onboarding process, and providing common support services to member organisations. In addition, non-technical activities like marketing and promoting the X-Road ecosystem should not be forgotten either.
Typically, technical maintenance and support are run by a team of 2-4 people. However, the required effort is 1-2 man-years depending on the size of the ecosystem. Besides, it’s common to have a full-day service owner and product owner, and other part-time resources.
